» Winter newsletter - June 2009
From the CFI |

Welcome to Bankstown Helicopters' on-line newsletter. I want to use this quarterly newsletter to provide some information on the current and upcoming rules and regulations, as well as some information in regard to flight safety, and the recent achievements of our students, charter pilots and instructors.
I would also appreciate any information or other input that you would like to contribute, so that we can make the newsletter as informative and entertaining as possible.

I don't want to beat the Bankstown Helicopters drum too hard, so I'll leave it there and look forward to seeing you all soon.
Best regards,
Bill Miller

Western Helipad changes
On 22nd April 2009, CASA issued a NOTAM advising significant changes to operations at the Western helipad. The general effect is to prohibit any flight operations at the Western pad which would pass over Georges Hall below 500 ft. As a result departures in the 29 direction and arrivals in the 11 direction are no longer allowed.
Operations to and from the Main helipad are not affected, so you can use that for all operations, and we encourage you to do so.
If you have any questions about the revised procedures, please ask one of the staff - We would be happy to review the changes with you.
Hoxton Park
After many changed dates, Hoxton Park was finally closed to all operations on 16th December 2008. Many of you would have learnt to fly circuits, autos, and other lessons there. We now use a mixture of Bankstown and Camden

4th June document updates
It is a legal requirement to fly with current documentation. On 4th June there were revisions to a range of flight documents. In particular there is a new ERSA, and new charts for all VTCs and VNCs. The Pilots' Shop have all the up-to-date documents available for purchase.
New Jetranger

We will soon have another Jetranger on line. It arrived in the country a few weeks ago and is being assembled at the moment. It will be available for charter and training once everything is finalised. |
From the Instructors |
Milestones Achieved |
If at all possible, please arrive a bit early for your lessons - it's really helpful to us and it makes the lesson more relaxed for you. If the lesson is general handling (ie not a cross-country navigation exercise), then being here 20 minutes or so early will allow time for you to look over a helicopter and be ready to go once your instructor has finished with their previous student. If the lesson is navigation, then please come early enough to complete your flight planning before the start time of your lesson - Most students need an hour or two to do this.
Please do your pre-lesson preparation. If you've read the briefing notes and looked over a helicopter, we can get into the fun part and go flying with minimal delay. |

The last word
Along with up-to-date flight documents, please ensure that you carry your licence and medical on every flight. Even when you are flying with an instructor, CAR 139 still applies, so the licences and medicals of all of the operating crew must be on board the aircraft.
